The Creative Process behind Anja's Arizona Dream Watercolor

The Creative Process behind Anja's Arizona Dream Watercolor

We keep hearing that many of you would love to learn more about our creative process here at Ceci New York. Well, you're in luck because this week I'm taking you along to a final invitation design presentation with Anja Winikka, Site Director of TheKnot.com. Anja has become a good friend over the years we've worked together on various projects, so it was fun to turn the tables and finally get to design for her as the bride.

As the editor of a website that’s become an online wedding bible, Anja has seen plenty of amazing affairs. But she was determined to follow her own style for her big day. When we sat down for our first meeting, Anja requested a desert theme that reflected her Arizona roots – but it also had to be elegant and just a tad eclectic to match her personality.

We met up for the final design presentation at The Knot's downtown offices, along with photographer Allan Zepeda, who captured the happy riot of desert colors and cacti. For a more in-depth view of Anja's invitation, which shows how my watercolor painting translated into a gorgeous envelope liner, be sure to head here.

I love that Anja chose photographer Mel Barlow to capture the day, since Mel also shot my wedding. And with planner Laura Wright’s help, the event's details were geared toward the enjoyment and comfort of guests. As you’ll see, being true to yourself does lead to happy endings!
