V39: GREAT ESCAPES – GUIDE TO LONDON

Great Escapes

Guide to London

  1. The Cow: There’s a gastropub upstairs, but head downstairs for a great, local Notting Hill pub vibe where you can get delicious gastropub treats as well.

  2. Les Trois Garcons: Super-chic and funky restaurant in East London. Lounge Lover is their ubercool bar.

  3. Maroush: Hummus, baba ghanoush and other Middle Eastern treats like you’ve never had before. Multiple locations across London.

  4. Electric Cinema: It’s in the Soho House family, but their refined taste added to a cinema means seats with beverage holders and stands that accommodate alcoholic drinks. Right on Portobello Road, this place will give you a true taste of Notting Hill. The Electric Brasserie is next door if you are hankering for some food after your flick.

  5. Tate Modern: Get your museum fix on with treats from this gem of a museum.

  6. Portobello Market: Every Friday vendors come out to hawk their wares under the overpass on Portobello Road. Original designs, vintage, and everything else abounds. Famed British designers scout the market as well so keep your eyes open for Stella or Alice looking around. The market is also open on Saturdays, but features less vintage and more contemporary products.

  7. Claridge’s: No trip to London is complete without a proper afternoon tea. Hit up Claridge’s and get your scone and tea fix. Or try other great favorite places like The Woseley or The Berkeley, where the fashion set heads for tea.

  8. Momo: Get your groove on in this Moroccan-souk-themed downstairs bar in the heart of London’s Soho.

  9. Selfridge’s: Hit this department store for the best of British and then some. It masterfully curates the British quirky fashion sense for all of us!

  10. Buckingham Palace & Kensington Palace: Given the impending royal nuptials, you should acquaint yourself with the home of the Queen and the former home of Princess Di.

  11. Hyde Park: If you’re looking for the equivalent of Central Park, look no further. Hyde Park houses a vast expanse of green space as well as the Serpentine Gallery. Great for a stroll or contemplation.

  12. Top Shop: Sir Philip Green was knighted for a good reason – the fashion in his Top Shop stores is cheap as chips and stylish to boot! A must-see even if you live in NYC and now have access to their Soho store. There are multiple locations, but the largest store is in Oxford Circle.
