I have always been a big devotee of giving back to a great cause. One crusade that is especially dear to my heart is the fight against cancer. My own father has been affected, which has made me especially aware of just how far-reaching cancer is. These days it seems like everyone I talk to has a friend or a loved one with a story. Since October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I’ve decided to add my own voice to the battle by dedicating this month’s first issue to items supporting breast cancer charities. To be as effective as possible, I am giving a never-before-offered 15 percent discount on any pink Ceci New York product during October and donating a portion of the proceeds to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. This is your chance to invest in any item – from stationery to invitations – for that next special occasion while supporting a fantastic cause. If you ask me, Pretty Miss is a perfect starting point for brides in a pink mood and Vivian would make an ideal dinner party invite. And while you’re at it, why not check out the delightful items below that not only aid various breast cancer charities but make thoughtful gifts? Either way, please join me in this important fight. Remember, all you pink-crazed fans out there: don’t wait to get that pink Ceci New York design you’ve had your eye on – this charitable deal only lasts until the end of the month. In the meantime, I hope you’ll enjoy the inspiration photos the immensely talented Mel Barlow took at the beautiful event space 632 on Hudson. Naturally, I’m wearing pink, the color that fashion designer Amsale – one of this week’s featured experts – encourages all brides to wear. Read on for all her excellent tips!

Achieve a beautiful fresh face with tips from celebrity makeup artist Danielle Nafte:
Face: In support of Breast Cancer Awareness we know the color is “Pink, pink, pink!” Well, let’s start with a soft, flawless face. I love using tinted moisturizers to achieve that light, dewy look. Try ARTISTRY® tinted moisturizer with SPF 15 to help keep your skin protected from the sun’s damaging rays while looking completely natural and glowing. It is a good idea to add a small amount of concealer on problem areas. Remember… dab and blend your concealer.
Blush: Now it’s time to add a “pop of pink” to your cheeks with a cream or powder blush. I personally love ARTISTRY® Pink Passion mixed with their 3D face powder in Shimmer Pink. Finish by highlighting the cheek bones, temples and down the center of the nose with Shimmer Loose powder to add that glow we all love to have.
Eyes: Now that the face is pink and bright, the eyes are ready for that radiant shine. Go for a soft natural pink with a nice shimmer to it. Prep the eyelid with either a concealer or eyelid primer to help the color hold better. I love using a soft white shimmer as the initial wash of color and then adding a soft pink shadow directly on top of it. My favorites are ARTISTRY® Starry Night as your white shimmer and Charm as the subtle pink. For evening, try adding some contour in your crease by using a medium brown. This will accent the pink. A white eyeliner on the inner rim of the eye will help to achieve a more natural look. If you want more drama, add some black liner on your lash line. By applying the black liner with an angle brush and using powder, your eyes will appear subtly intense.
Lashes: I am a lash girl! I love lashes! They really help complete the eye. For this look, I would go with a natural strip of lashes. Sometimes the drugstore brands are perfect for this. When applying them on yourself, try putting a mirror on your lap or on a table below you so that you are looking downward as you apply. This will help ensure the lashes go directly into your lash line. Put small amounts of glue across the entire edge of the lash, let it dry for about 20 seconds, and then apply. I like to start centrally and then gradually push the ends down. Once the glue has dried, make sure to blend your real lashes with the false ones with your mascara and then gently curl using a lash curler.
Lips: Breast Cancer Awareness has finally made all of us ladies look in the mirror and say, “I need to be proactive in taking care of my body; I need to speak out and to be aware!” The color is “pink”. A subtle pink lip by using only a gloss with color says, “I’m here, please listen to me.” My absolute all-time favorite lip gloss is the color Glitz from ARTISTRY®. But, here is the bonus…it comes with a light and a mirror right on the tube of the gloss, so you can always see what you are doing, even when it’s dark.
I hope these few tips and tricks help to support breast cancer awareness on a daily basis. Always be aware of the quality of products that you use. The products I recommended are all natural, with vitamin enriched ingredients. We need to always remember that it is all about our inner health, rather than our outer beauty. Stay beautiful and healthy.

Ethiopian-born designer Amsale Aberra first considered creating bridal attire when she was hunting for her own wedding dress in 1985. Frustrated by the lack of classic, timeless gowns, she designed her own, and in 1986 she launched her own label, designing custom wedding dresses from her garment-district loft. With the motto “forever modern,” the label’s gowns are known for their classic elegance and understated adornment, like handcrafted beading or a blue sash at the waist.
“Amsale’s beautiful gowns have graced countless brides across the globe, from A-list celebs to wonderful, style-conscious people like us who desire beauty and fine craftsmanship. Amsale and I share a combined love of perfection and attention to detail and a strong passion for beauty – when I met her we immediately clicked. You can choose from one of her gorgeous collections or hire her directly to create a couture Amsale gown made just for you! Priceless.” - CECI JOHNSON
Tips for buying a wedding dress by Amsale Aberra:
When looking for a dress, think carefully about who you ask to come with you: Friends who understand your aesthetic will help you pick a dress reflective of your personal style. Friends who a different sense of style will only confuse you when you’re making the decision.
I love the idea of shopping for your wedding gown with your mother: Talk with her beforehand about what kind of dress you’re looking for. If you convince your mother of what you want ahead of time, you will be shopping towards a common goal and not fighting in the fitting room!
Before looking at dresses, really think about your style: Look at the clothes in your closet. Are you a traditionalist? A modernist? Your personal style should be reflected in your wedding dress.
When first trying on dresses – try on several silhouettes: Once you know what looks good on you, then move on to the details of the dress.
Take into consideration current fashion trends: …but don’t focus too much on the current ready-to-wear trends. A trendy dress will immediately look dated. A dress that is classic but current will have a lasting appeal.
We recently teamed up with Brides Magazine to raise breast cancer awareness. We designed several dresses in light pink, and surprisingly, brides loved the idea of adding color to their wedding day ensemble. A traditional silhouette paired with a pop of color makes for a dress that is unmistakably modern, while timeless.
